Hands + Heart = Joy!

Welcome to my first blog on charity and gift knitting. I am an (almost) lifelong knitter who never met a fiber she didn’t like. My stash had grown to a point where I recently rented a studio to organize and house the 1200+ skeins I have accumulated, plus knitting magazines and books, patterns, needles, a Rigid Heddle loom, and my trusty yarn winder so thoughtfully gifted me by my sister. As I sorted and wondered the purpose for so many single skein purchases, I decided that 2019 will be the year of stashbusting. And what better way to do that than to knit for charity.

As I began researching online for charities I would like to support, the proverbial “lightbulb” came on. I bet there are lots of people out there like me, who would be happy to knit for charities but are overwhelmed wondering what to make, in what fiber, for what deadline, and where to send their finished items. There are individuals who like to hone in on one charity; others like “spreading the love” and knit (or crochet, of course) for a variety of organizations. So this senior citizen figured out how to fire up a basic website and is proceeding to build a national list of organizations looking for hand knit/crocheted items.

I hope you will read each new blog and also view my YouTube videos, where you can learn more about knitting for gifts or charity. I will offer short info sessions on specific items for selected charities including “tips and tricks” to make the most of your knitting opportunities. If you have a compassionate heart and willing hands, you can bring joy to so many with your knitting skills, whether beginner or advanced.
